State Assembly
- One of the biggest problems with the State Assembly is how few people know about its importance and existence. Creating a 101 presentation for chapter presidents to share with their chapters about the State Assembly will help increase overall knowledge about its role in JSA. It will also encourage more people to write their own bills, as the presentation will also clearly outline how to write a bill and the deadline of when the bills are due
- We will also encourage more people to attend State Assembly meetings by having more seating in the room that the meeting is taking place and publicizing the meeting at the convention.
- Bills tend to pile up when there are large gaps of time in between State Assembly meetings. Next year, I will have online meetings between Fall One Day and Fall State and Fall State and Winter Congress. The problem at Fall State is that bills accumulate from summer and fall because Fall One Day is just an information session. Fall State and Winter Congress are more than two months away from each other. This means that there is a very large bill docket come Winter Congress. More online meetings would allow for enough time at the actual convention to debate all the bills on the docket and have ample time for each of them. The only problem with this is meeting quorum, but with adequate planning and advance notice, it would not be a problem.
Summer School Promotion
- I will ask the Director of Summer School Promotion to hold monthly webinars to help raise awareness about what the summer school is and how students can easily work through the application process.
- I will propose sending monthly mass emails to chapter presidents, encouraging their members to attend these webinars and asking their members who wants to be in contact with the DSSP.
- My favorite initiative regarding summer school is asking students in the summer school program to create "day in the life" vlogs while they are there. Those videos would be posted on the MAS social media accounts to garner interest. Videos from the point of view of the student will be a lot more personal and welcoming than the more professionally made one.
